The camping is included in the price of your tour, although it is an optional activity and there is no need to book in advance. Passengers can make their decision to camp or to stay on board ship once they have been to the briefing given by the expedition team. The activity is ice and weather dependent; the final decision to go ahead is made by the captain and the expedition leader. Good quality camping equipment including sleeping bags, tents, bivvy bags and a portable onshore loo are provided. In the morning, everyone and everything returns to the ship; nothing at all is left on Antarctica. Paddle peacefully in some of the continent's more remote, sheltered bays and get remarkably close to the amazing wildlife. A qualified kayaking guide will accompany all the kayak excursions and only the best quality equipment is used. Kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, dry suits, personal flotation devices, pogies and booties, as well as water tight deck bags to protect cameras are all provided. The kayaks are launched from a zodiac, then for safety reasons the zodiac shadows the kayaks throughout the excursion. Previous paddling experience is preferable including wet exits, basic strokes and some bracing experience. Places are limited to 10 paddlers per voyage so it must be pre-booked.
