this voyage is sailing through the stunningly beautiful mountainous Lofoten Islands, rising to 3,000 feet. See the fishermen's cabins built on stilts and seabirds including puffins and guillemots. The ship may also detour into the spectacular sheer-sided Trollfjord site of a famous battle between local fishermen and wealthy ship owners in 1890.
The Hurtigruten fleet are working vessels delivering supplies and passengers to remote communities rather than luxury cruise ships, giving passengers a unique insight into the culture and natural beauty of the Norwegian coastline. Eleven ships operate the route, each with its own style and character. They have large panoramic lounges, bars, a restaurant and shop selling souvenirs and limited toiletries. The emphasis is on relaxation and experiencing the unique environment rather than the commercial entertainment of conventional cruises. Size, layout and number of cabins vary depending on the ship.
