Stewart Island Lying off the south eastern corner of New Zealand, Stewart Island is the country's third largest island and the most southerly land mass before you reach Antarctica. You will be met as you depart the ferry and transferred to your chosen accommodation in the small, sedate town of Oban, set attractively on the shores of beautiful Half Moon Bay. Rakiura National Park occupies nearly 85% of Stewart Island and Oban is the only sizeable settlement, which makes Stewart Island a great location for spotting all manner of wildlife, especially birds and particularly the elusive kiwi.
