Moselle River
This wonderful holiday combines the beautiful Black Forest, a delightful region famed for its cuckoo clocks and towering forests, quaint villages and rolling hills, with a stay in the peaceful Moselle Valley. Dotted with picturesque wine villages, the Moselle region is famed for its range of delicious white wines. A warm welcome awaits you plus included visits to Colmar and Heidelberg and some great excursion possibilities highlighting the best of these two popular regions.
YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning crossing to Calais. Continue to the Metz area of northern France for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 2 - Our journey continues through the Alsace region, stopping in Colmar before crossing into the Black Forest, arriving late afternoon in the pretty village of Rötenbach for a three night stay. DAYS 3 & 4 - Free to relax and enjoy our optional excursion programme: Black Forest Panorama - A superb three-quarter day tour, visiting the city of Freiburg, returning along the scenic Schauinsland and Feldberg roads, stopping in the lakeside resort of Titisee-Neustadt. Rhine Falls - Today we cross into Switzerland to view the spectacular Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen. Our full day tour ends with a scenic journey through the most southerly part of the Black Forest, calling in at the pretty towns of Stein am Rhine and Schluchsee. DAY 5 - Today we head north to the Moselle Valley for a two night stay, calling at the university city of Heidelberg en route. DAY 6 - Free to relax or join our optional Moselle Explorer excursion. Enjoy a full day tour through the beautiful Moselle Valley, visiting Cochem and Bernkastel. There will be time for a river cruise and on the way back we will stop in pretty Winningen for a tasting of local wines. DAY 7 - Depart after breakfast for a late afternoon crossing back to the UK. Return to your original departure point in the evening. YOUR HOTELS In the Black Forest you will stay in the traditional family-run Landgasthaus Rössle in the village of Rötenbach. Centrally situated, hotel amenities include restaurant/bar, bowling alley and terrace. All bedrooms feature private facilities. Please note some rooms may be in the adjacent guesthouse, where there is a lift.
